This series of work utilizes natural indigo dyeing and shibori techniques to create maps from memory. For me, the machine sewn shibori process, which uses thread to create a resist in a dyed cloth, speaks to both a cultural and a physical sense of memory. The mapped images here come from a removal of thread which leaves a lasting image created by an object that is no longer present. The sewn construction of the work is used to speak to how borders break apart land and communities.
